Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage can be very similar to Swedish massage, but instead uses a deeper pressure to relieve chronic tension. This pressure helps to focus on the deepest layers of muscle tissue and tendons. This can help to break up knotted tissues and soften adhesions. In order to get to the deeper layers, I may use an elbow and deep finger tip pressure. Deep tissue is not for everyone. It is less about ‘more pain, more gain’, and more about knowing your body and trusting that you know when to ask your therapist to ease up. Deep tissue massage is one of the most frequent modalities I rely on in my practice.
