Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is a tight area within the muscle tissue that causes pain. Trigger points often have a referred pain. This means that the pain is in another area of the body then just the spot that is being massaged. For example, a knotted muscle fiber in between the shoulder blades triggers a pain that travels up your neck. Trigger Point Therapy targets these areas of tension, and is a great way to release muscle constriction and alleviate pain. Working with other health care practitioners, such as a chiropractor, I learned to use trigger point therapy with injuries and also chronic muscle pain. Trigger point therapy is deep and specific pressure in one area.
